Although touted as an informal procedure capable of being operated by parties without the need for expensive representation, the reality is that most participants prefer not to represent themselves. The latest survey from the Adjudication Reporting Centre at Caledonian University shows 63% of parties represented either by lawyers or dispute resolution consultants. (An interesting statistic would be the number who represent themselves in their first adjudication, but get representation for their second.)
